Russia launches ICBM, takes action on quality issues
04 Nov 2009 8ak: Russia has tested an intercontinental ballistic missile from a submarine. Strategy Page has reported on the quality issues with the Bulava missile development and Russian President Medvedev is unhappy about the quality of Russian weapons given the level of investments.
Barents Observer: It was the nuclear submarine “Bryansk” that launched the missile, Izvestia.ru reports, citing the Russian Ministry of Defense’s press service. According to Izvestia, it was not informed which type of missile that was launched, but the Delta IV class submarine “Bryansk” is armed with RSM-54 “Sineva” missiles. Full news
Strategy Page: A few months ago, the developers of the Bulava were told that they had until the end of the year to make the missile work. Otherwise, the project would be canceled, heads would roll and the older R-29RM Sineva SLBM would replace the Bulava. Apparently the accountants caught wind of this and told the bosses how much such a switch would cost (we're talking several billion dollars, at least). Full news
SpaceWar: Russian President Dmitri Medvedev criticised on Monday the pace of military-industrial modernisation, saying it is affecting the quality of Russian weapons and harming national prestige. "Considerable funds have been invested over the past few years to develop the military-industrial complex. So far the results are mediocre," Medvedev said on Russian television. Full news





Thats a big problem to be having with such an important system. Though this is the current state of Russian systems.
